Lazenby, Ekland and Glen at Oman Film Festival

30-Mar-2012 • Event

One-time James Bond actor George Lazneby, Bond girl Britt Ekland and five-times 007 director John Glen were in Oman as special guests of the 7th Muscat International Film Festival this week.

The event, held at the Al Bustan Palace (today a Ritz Carlton hotel) featured a program to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the legendary spy's silver screen adventures,

Lazenby told the audience, “I was selected to be the next James Bond after a rigorous selection process of almost 300 actors chosen out of thousands of applications. Incidentally, the position was consolidated when I accidentally punched a professional wrestler, who was acting as stunt coordinator, in the face, impressing Broccoli with his ability to display aggression. Also, I won the role based on a screen-test fight scene, the strength of his interviews, fight skills and audition footage."

Ekland was very appreciative to be part of the legacy, but talked of the difficulty she had in her career later in life. “The greatest barrier of an actress is getting old by when she loses all her charm and appeal on the celluloid,” the 70-year-old actress said.
