Dame Judi Dench honoured in this year's Churchill Awards

10-Jan-2015 • Actor News

The actress who played the stern and selfless head of MI6 in seven consecutive 007 adventures has been honoured with a Churchill Award.

The award, named after the British wartime prime minister, honours excellence among the over-65s and has been running since 2012.

The inspirational feat that earned Judi Dench the award was her efforts to overcome macular degeneration and continue to act professionally. In her most recent role as Philomena in the Steve Coogan film of the same name she learned her lines by having them read to her.

"As you can see, then, she is not giving up, but remains an absolute inspiration to others," said Esther Rantzen, who campaigned to have Dench nominated for the award.
