Matthew Vaughn turned down directors job on James Bond 21 due to year long delay

18-Feb-2005 • Casino Royale

"Layer Cake" director Matthew Vaughn has revealed that he was more than just a candidate director for the 21st James Bond film.

Vaughn, who is married to German supermodel Claudia Schiffer, came very close to taking on the prestigious project but dropped out when the production was delayed by a year - reports IMDB.

The 33-year-old says, "I came very close to doing it - as close as you can get. I was offered it by the studio, but then circumstances meant it was pushed back by a year."

"GoldenEye" director Martin Campbell was confirmed as his replacement earlier this month for "Casino Royale" (2006).

Thanks to `Goldfinger` for the alert.
