UK tabloid pushes false rumour of Michael Sheen and Blofeld

16-Jun-2009 • Skyfall

UK tabloid rag The Daily Express has concocted another false rumour surrounding an up and coming James Bond film.

Due to Friday's official announcement that Peter Morgan will be on the writing team for the 23rd James Bond adventure, some fans had raised the possibility of actor Michael Sheen being favoured for a role due to Morgan's recent award-winning work with Sheen on "Frost/Nixon". This was all idle speculation by fans.

The Express, not one to let fan speculation go to waste, have now stretched a story to falsely claim that Sheen will be bringing the role of Ernst Stavro Blofeld back to the big screen. If the tabloid hacks had read up on any Bond history they would have gauged that Blofeld's return is highly unlikely due to the legal ambiguities regarding ownership of the character.

For the record, one of the journalist's friends said (read: their 'Bond mole'), "“Michael is hot property right now and it’s felt he’s the man to bring Blofeld back to life, Michael was a Bond fan in his youth, so this would be a dream role for him.”
