It's hard to imagine anyone else playing the role of Jill Masterson in 'Goldfinger', given the iconic status her gold painted body has engrained in generations of movie-goes across the globe. But back in 1963, producers had a different actress in mind rather than Shirley Eaton.

Although she has penned four autobiographies, British actress Joan Collins has just revealed that she was first approached for the part and why she had to turn it down.

"I was asked to do the Shirley Eaton part in the Sean Connery Bond film Goldfinger - the classic role in which she is naked and sprayed from head to foot in gold paint," Joan told Richard Kay of the Daily Mail recently.

"It’s an amazing image and an amazing film but I turned it down. I was pregnant at the time with my son Sacha. Who knows? It could have altered the direction of my whole career and I sometimes wonder what would have happened if I had done it."

"I have never talked about it before and it’s not in my new book because I didn’t want to be bitchy to Shirley."
