Artist Michael Gillette has designed a new cover
for the "Quantum
of Solace: The Complete James Bond Short Story" collection
to be published in Portugal...

New Quantum of Solace Cover

To celebrate the Ian Fleming centenary, Penguin
commissioned artist Michael Gillette to redesign
the covers for all 14 James Bond novels, re-released in hardback under
the Penguin 007 imprint in May 2008. In August 2009, Penguin
also released the series in paperback.
Originally from Wales but now based in San Francisco, USA, Gillette
has worked for some of the world's biggest clients including
Capitol Records, Greenpeace, Levi and MTV. Of his latest work
for Bond, Gillette wrote on his blog, "Ahh the The 60's.
When I was a kid, I thought this was what illustration was all
about - setting the type and drawing the images for books."

Back in 2008, with no movie
novelization for the film "Quantum
of Solace",
Ian Fleming Publications instead released a complete
collection of Ian
Fleming's short stories. To cash in on the movie, the
title of the collection was taken from one of the
included stories...Quantum of Solace. Penguin Modern Classics
published the collection in paperback.
It was the US version of this edition that sported cover
artwork by Richie Fahey,
who had previously designed the US paperback series in
2004 and 2005. Penguin Classics then released
the compendium again in the UK in late 2008 with another
new cover - this time a 'dossier'
style hardback jacket that went on to win a design
award.
Now, the "Quantum of Solace" compendium
is being updated with a new cover from Gillette to complete
the series of 'Centenary'
designs. The latest edition will
be published in Portuguese by Arteplural under the imprint
Contraponto. Most of the titles on the artwork have carried
over untouched,
but some have been translated ('Live And Let Die' becomes
'Vive E Deixa
Morrer'). Contraponto will release Casino Royale, Live
And Let Die, Dr. No and Quantum of Solace in March.
There
is no word yet whether this
cover will
be made available in the UK or USA. |
