BIOGRAPHY
Sophie Maupu, now Marceau, grew up in the suburbs of Paris. She was first introduced to the world of movies at the age of 14 when a French film director put out a casting call to teenagers. The director, Claude Pinoteau, cast Marceau in his film, La Boum (a romantic comedy). After the success of her first film, Sophie Marceau was brought back to perform in La Boum 2 (1982). At 16 years, Marceau received her first contract with the production company Gaumont for a million francs.

In 1991, Marceau appeared in the stage production Euridyce by Jean Anouilh. This, her first stage role, won her the Moliere award for Most Promising Newcomer.

Marceau has been rewarded with several other awards including the César award, Most Promising Young Actress (1982), Best Romantic Actress at the International Festival of Romantic Movies (1988) and Moliere of the Best Theatrical Revelation for Eurydice (1994).

Later Marceau starred in three films by director and partner, Andrzej Zulawski. Marceau and Zulawski had a son on the 2 4th of July 1995. He was named Vincent.
