Rumours swirl of Jamie Bell and Theo James screentest wobbles

19-Jul-2016 • No Time To Die

Although Daniel Craig is still the 'James Bond of record,' that hasn't stopped the media from speculating on who will be taking over the role. Craig has an option for a fifth outing as 007, and the official line from EON Productions is that no decision has been made either way.

That said, HeatStreet are today reporting that English actors Jamie Bell and Theo James have both recently completed screentests. And failed.

"Neither test went great," the source told the site, "and the race is still wide open."

"[Producer] Barbara Broccoli is currently making a [non-Bond] movie with Bell but when it came to his test, he just didn’t look the part. Theo James impressed EON by conveying a Bond aura with his Hugo Boss adverts but this didn’t translate into the audition and he’s now out of contention."

Aidan Turner and Tom Hiddleston are said to be still under consideration according to the report.

Back in 2005, Daniel Craig reluctantly performed a screen test (even though he was already preferred by Barbara Broccoli but the studio needed persuading) and won out over rivals Dominic West and Sam Worthington.
