Geoffrey Moore set to follow in father Roger`s footsteps as the next James Bond according to latest rumours

13-Jul-2004 • Casino Royale

According the the latest `next Bond` gossip in today's edition of "The Sun" newspaper (UK), son of Roger Moore - Geoffrey - could soon be following in his father's footsteps by taking over the role of James Bond from Pierce Brosnan.

The newspaper claims, "The 37-year-old is on the shortlist of candidates to replace current 007 Pierce Brosnan for the next movie. He has already attended a read-through for the part with producer Barbara Broccoli following the collapse of contract negotiations between Bond bosses and Brosnan."

A "source" (anonymous as ever) told the paper, "Geoffrey is like a real-life Bond. He looks the part, too. He’s a dashing upper-class restaurateur who lives a real jet-setting lifestyle. If anything, he is more like James Bond than his dad."

It is not the first time Geoffrey Moore has faced such rumours. During the press hype of "Die Another Day" back in November 2002, he gave several interviews about his life, career and his father's role as 007 #3. Interviewers mentioned his status as "high up on Eon's wish list for the next James Bond" on numerous occasions.

Geoffrey, who owns the successful plush London eatery Hush, has made only five forays into acting, with limited success.

Father Roger has often said that his son would make a better 007 than he did. Talking to Hello Magazine in April 2002, he said, "I think Geoffrey has the necessary charm, wit and sophistication to be 007. He is much better looking than me and much more talented, so I think he would be perfect for the role. Maybe he could even incorporate a bit of the cooking into the role.”

Keep it in the family. Christina Knudsen, Geoffrey Moore, Roger Moore and wife Christina Tholstrup.

Back in October 2003, Geoffrey Moore slammed the chances of media favourites Hugh Jackman and Clive Owen as the sixth James Bond. Channel 4 news (UK) reported his outburst: "It couldn`t be [Hugh Jackman]. Even if Jackman could do a perfect English accent, it just wouldn`t be the same. You might as well have Brad Pitt and go the whole Hollywood route. [Clive Owen] would be a Bond in the Timothy Dalton mould."

Earlier that year, Geoffrey became a father (and made Roger a grandfather for the third time) when his daughter baby Mia was born on March 26th 2003.
