Pierce Brosnan becomes third James Bond to visit Wimbledon

03-Jul-2005 • Actor News

First there was George Lazenby (perennial Wimbledon attendee), then there was Sir Sean Connery last week cheering on young Scot Andrew Murray, now this weekend saw the third former James Bond attend the world famous tennis tournament.

Looking well, although a little hot and flustered, Pierce Brosnan made a fleeting appearance on the BBC's coverage of Wimbledon when play was suspended due to rain.

Brosnan briefly discussed his career and the fame that came from playing the role of James Bond, saying that he had been recognised at Wimbledon with the usual: "Bond, James Bond - Brosnan, Pierce Brosnan" comments from fans.

The fame has had its ups and downs the actor said, detailing an embarrassing game of tennis (doubles) in which he was hit square in the face by the ball - with fans "hanging out of the windows" to watch. Brosnan also mentioned that his family have a home in Wimbledon. However, the star hasn't been to the event in recent years, due to work commitments.

When asked about Bond, Pierce replied, it would "definitely not" be him in the next film.
