James Bond racing game may be in development by Activision studio Bizarre Creations

10-Dec-2007 • Gaming

A racing game for the James Bond franchise may be under development according to 1up.

The site says that "We already know that Activision picked up Project Gotham Racing studio Bizarre Creations because of their experience in the racing genre, but [we're] hearing their first project is hardly a head-to-head with the Need for Speed series. Instead, it appears they're working on a James Bond project -- but one with a load of driving elements."

Previous videogame licencee Electronic Arts flirted with different ways to use the James Bond licence, including the critically-slammed "Goldeneye: Rogue Agent" in 2004 where players took control of a villain.

EA also tested out the driving genre with "007 Racing" in 2000, which was also met with poor reviews. MI6 can reveal that a sequel was in the pipeline but was canned mid-way through production.

MI6 previously reported that a second game under new licence holders Activision was underway. Bizarre Creations was acquired by Activision back in October.

The first game for the 007 licence to be published by Activision is under development by Treyarch, and will be a blend of elements from Casino Royale and the upcoming Bond 22, which it is expected to ship alongside in November 2008.
