Trade press slams tabloid Bond 23 'axed' claims as false, just suspended
The Internet was abuzz today with reports that MGM had put the brakes on any further development of the next James Bond movie, officially known as âBond 23", reports THR
The only problem was that it was old news.
In April, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli of EON Prods., producer of the long-running franchise, announced they were suspending development of the film because of the financial difficulties of the filmâs distributor, MGM, which still have not been resolved.
âWe do not know when development will resume and do not have a date for the release,â they said at the time.
The current wave of stories, including a report in Londonâs Daily Mail and a Harry Knowles commentary on AintItCool.com, which were both published July 2, treated the halt on development as if it were breaking news, triggering a wave of new Bond âon iceâ headlines that quickly multiplied across the web.
But nothing has changed, according to insiders familiar with the situation.
Work on the next Bond was suspended in April, and that remains the case.
