Catherine McQueen Interview
30th October 2002

MI6, in association with Men & Motors, can finally unravel the story of Catherine McQueen's involvement in "Die Another Day".

The tabloids and Internet rumour mills have been running hot on her Bond girls status ever since filming began at the Ice Palace set.

But for the first time, Catherine McQueen tells the real story behind the media coverage in an exclusive interview with Stacey Greenaway
from menandmotors.co.uk

What part did you play in the new bond film?
I am a glorified extra, a Russian, in the ice palace scene with 10 other models, we were basically there to glam up the scene.

You know this whole Bond Girl thing has been blown out of proportion. In between filming the Bond film I was shooting the "Babe Team" world cup video. The Bond scenes were filmed at night, so one day when I turned up for the babe team shoot I was absolutely shattered. One of the photographers commented about me being so tired and I said, "Oh, I've been up all night filming for the new bond film." Well next day in The Sun was the headline, "Babe Team featuring new Bond Girl Cat McQueen!" There were 9 other girls, you may know some of them, Abby Essien, Michell Clack and Anna Edwards, we all do the scene together.

Did you enjoy the filming?
It was amazing, I am a bond girl in the widest terms, but it was such an amazing experience to be part of it, there was no expense spared. It was filmed in pinewood studios, the set was absolutely beautiful.

Did you have many scenes with Pierce Brosnan?
I played next to him, I got to spend quite a lot of time with him and Halle Berry. He was so friendly and charming he spoke to us all and Halle Berry, if possible, is even more beautiful in real life.

Cutting Room Floor

Unfortunately for Catherine, her part in "Die Another Day" may be consigned to the world of Bond folklore or a DVD cut-scene.

The final edit of the film is unlikely to feature the Ice Palace girls. Newspapers are speculating it is because the producers are unhappy about the models claiming Bond girls status, but MI6 sources have said it is simply to trim the running time of the film and keep the pace of the story.

Yesterday, her agent confirmed her involvement after the tirade of tabloid hype: "She was just an extra. She was never going to be in the film."
