Issue #73 of the full-colour James Bond magazine MI6 Confidential is now shipping worldwide.
There is not much that has not already been written about the seminal 1964 film Goldfinger, but one aspect that is often overlooked is the science and technological marvels that wowed audiences and fuelled a sub-genre of ‘spy-fi’ in the 1960s. In this issue we delve into the film’s laser, homers, gold paint and machines that go ping and ask – how much of it holds true?
Staying in the ‘60s, we also look back at the Christmas launch of Thunderball on the London high-street, the unveiling of George Lazenby, and the bizarre promotional idea of a cookbook based on each of the Angels of Death.
We round out this issue by speaking to Paul Duncan about his new Dr. No book and Kim Sherwood on the publication of her second Double-O novel.
In This Issue
- Machines That Go Ping how much of Goldfinger’s technology holds true today?
- Birth of the Golden Girl the origins of Oddjob’s paint job
