Launched with little fanfare, the Japanese edition of "GoldenEye 007" for the Nintendo Wii has clocked up impressive sales...

Japan Launch

17th September 2011

The Nintendo Wii version of "GoldenEye 007" finally hit store shelves in Japan on June 30th this year, almost 8 months after its debut in the USA and Europe.

The delay was due to several factors, namely the time taken to localize the game in to Japanese, and secondly the process of going through a third party publisher. Activision do not publish directly in Japan, opting to go through another publisher for that market. Their popular "Call of Duty" series is released by Square Enix in Japan.

Although first-person shooters are not as popular a gaming genre as in the West, "GoldenEye 007" made an impressive debut on the all-platform Japanese charts, making a new entry at #4 with an estimated 36,660 units sold. It was ranked #1 in the Wii specific chart for its launch week.

After ten weeks on sale in the country, the game is estimated to have clocked up around 100,000 units (adding to the worldwide total of 1.4m).

Mission

Designed exclusively for Wii, GoldenEye 007 allows players to channel Daniel Craig’s lethal and gritty James Bond in an innovative, modern take on the legendary Bond adventure, GoldenEye. Blending fast-paced first-person shooter (FPS) action with covert gameplay, GoldenEye 007 epitomizes the modern “thinking man’s shooter” by offering varied ways to complete each mission, destructible environments, the use of cover and multiple control scheme options, including the Wii Remote, Nunchuk, Classic Controller Pro and the Wii Zapper. GoldenEye 007 redefines the multiplayer experience on Wii with unprecedented split-screen action featuring classic Bond characters and special game modes, as well as online play for up eight friends.
