Dame Shirley Bassey awarded Member of the Order of the Companions of Honour

29-Dec-2023 • Bond News

Dame Shirley Bassey has been included in King Charles' second New Year's Honours list with a special award.

She becomes a Member of the Order of the Companions of Honour, one of the top honours in Britain, for her services to music. On receiving the news, she said: “My heart is full of emotion and I am truly humbled.”

Bassey becomes the 64th living member of the order (founded on 4 June 1917 by King George V as a reward for outstanding achievements) which can only have 65 members at any one time.

In 1994, Bassey became a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE). She was later made a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) on 31 December 1999 by Queen Elizabeth II for services to entertainment.
