David Tennant discovers he was on 007 long list twenty years ago

20-Oct-2022 • Actor News

Scottish actor and 'Dr Who' star David Tennant recently discovered he was on the long list to replace Pierce Brosnan as James Bond circa 2003 - 2004.

Asked if he had ever been in the running for the role, he said: ‘I never believed I had, until I worked with a director recently who had worked with the Broccoli's who said, “Yeah, you were on the list that time.” I was like, “What time? What are you talking about?” He went, “Yeah, the last time.” I suppose it must have been Daniel Craig, before that I would have been a child. I think it was quite a long list and I don’t think I was ever very near the top of it. But apparently so.’

MI6 understands that the director Tennant is referencing is Paul McGuigan, who helmed his TV mini-series 'Inside Man' this year, and before that directed EON's non-Bond production 'Film Stars Don't Die in Liverpool' in 2017 and was rumoured to be a potential Bond 25 director.
