Despite solid reviews, Daniel Craig's 'Logan Lucky' flops

22-Aug-2017 • Actor News

Daniel Craig's new film, 'Logan Lucky,' has flopped in its opening weekend at the US box-office despite a stellar 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The film took only $7.6m from 3,000 screens and landed at #3 in its opening 3 day weekend.

Although the budget of the film is reported to be $29m, that was already recovered from international presales. Director Steven Soderbergh used this model to fund the film in the same way the indie section of the industry has been doing for years.

Trade press dubbed his attempt to break the Hollywood model a failure based on the opening weekend, but comedy releases can have long legs at the box-office with good word of mouth.
