Eva Green to play Virginia Woolf in 'Vita & Virginia'

08-Feb-2017 • Actor News

Two Bond alumni will meet in Vita & Virginia, an historical drama focusing on the relationship between novelist Virginia Woolf and socialite, Vita Sackville-West, Screen Daily reports.

The novelist will be played by 'Casino Royale' star, Eva Green, whilst Gemma Arterton ('Quantum of Solace') has been cast as Sackville-West.

Set in the 1920s, the film will be based on the play by Eileen Atkins, who will co-write the film with director Chanya Button ('Burn, Burn Burn'). It follows the lesbian love affair between the couple that inspired Woolf to write her novel, 'Orlando'.

Arterton and Green will also serve as executive producers.

Of the production, director Button says: "The prospect of collaborating with Dame Eileen Atkins, Eva Green and Gemma Arterton in bringing the mercurial passion that Virginia Woolf and Vita Sackville-West shared to life is beyond a privilege. We so often associate women of the past with oppression, bound by the duties of marriage, propriety and domesticity; but what Vita & Virginia offers is an example of a relationship where bold, brilliant women bent these institutions to their will at great personal cost."
