Judi Dench having treatment to save eyesight

19-Feb-2012 • Actor News

The British actress and six time "M" has revealed that she is struggling to read scripts, restaurant menus and do the crossword.

Dench explained to the Guardian that she had received treatment for macular degeneration, a disease common amongst 60+ year-olds. Her peripheral vision remains in tact but the central vision is damaged.

"You get used to it. I've got lenses and glasses and things and very bright light helps," she said. "I can do a crossword if it's bright sunshine but if a cloud comes out the next minute I can't see anything."

The actress is remaining positive about her chances, and although she loves reading she is investing in an e-reader and audiobooks in the mean time.

Despite the affliction Judi is determined to continue her acting career: "As long as there is a possibility of working I'm not going to retire because if I retire nothing will work any more, and it's hard enough as it is," she says.

Thanks to `Jon`, `Josh` for the alert.
