Shirley Bassey to receive Freedom of the City award from Cardiff

25-Feb-2012 • Bond News

Dame Shirley has been announced as the 61st person to receive the freedom of the city of Cardiff.

The 75 year-old songstress, famed for her three James Bond themes - "Goldfinger", "Diamonds Are Forever" and "Moonraker" - will receive the award at a formal ceremony at a yet-to-be decided date.

Coun Berman told Wales Online: “When it comes to Dame Shirley Bassey, we are looking at someone who is undoubtedly the biggest star this city has ever produced.

“When you look back at her history, Dame Shirley has not lived in Cardiff for many years, but she has always come back for key events.

“These have included the opening of the Assembly, the Rugby World Cup and the Ryder Cup. She has not forgotten Cardiff.

“And she has also done an awful lot for The Noah’s Ark Appeal and I know they were campaigning for her.”
