Irish network RTE to lose Bond films to Sky until September 2013

21-Apr-2012 • Media Alert

Irish broadcaster RTE has lost the rights to broadcast the James Bond movies due to a new deal struck with the studio MGM and satellite behemoth Sky.

As in the UK where long-time Bond broadcaster ITV recently lost the rights, Sky scooped up the Bond catalog from RTE who is also known for scheduling 007 adventures around the holidays.

RTE will get to screen Bond films again in September 2013.

"All franchises do take their breaks," said RTE's Dermot Horan. "Leaving them fallow for 14 months will mean that people will have an appetite for them

RTE spends around €24m each year buying in a variety of shows and films to broadcast.
