Paramount green lights 007 spoof from Sacha Baron Cohen

07-Aug-2012 • Bond News

British comedian Sacha Baron Cohen, the creator of Ali G, Borat, Bruno and The Dictator, has set his sights on his next target for a spoof: James Bond.

In recent years, 007 has had to put up with the likes of Austin Powers and Johnny English aping his escapades, and now Daniel Craig's era in the tuxedo looks like it will be lampooned by Baron Cohen's next film.

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Paramount has acquired a pitch from Sacha Baron Cohen and Phil Johnston for "an untitled comedy project featuring a James Bond-like spy who is forced to go on the run with his long-lost brother, a moronic soccer hooligan."

The trade paper notes that Baron Cohen might take a role in the project, though that would depend on availability and scheduling.

Johnston recently penned the the Ed Helms comedy "Cedar Rapids" and Disney’s "Wreck-It-Ralph".
