Papers claim Penelope Cruz is close to signing for leading Bond Girl role

01-Jun-2013 • Spectre (2015)

The Daily Mail, which did manage to have quite an accurate track record on all things 'Skyfall' last time around, is today claiming that Spanish actress Penelope Cruz is close to signing up as the leading female role in the next 007 adventure, Bond 24.

If true, it would make Cruz one of the highest profile actresses to take on a 'Bond Girl' role.

A 'source' told the paper: ‘The producers have tried to get Penelope before, but she has never been available because of other commitments. The discussions have been going on for some time and they are working out the contract details now.’

Screenwriter John Logan started work on the Bond 24 script some time ago, and recent coverage of the candidate directors hinted that a draft is in circulation. Normally, all rumours of casting at this stage of pre-production would just be considered as noise from agents or quiet news days for tabloids, but when 'Skyfall' was being penned, Javier Bardem was written in as the actor to play villain Silva very early on.

Cruz, 40, is married to Bardem - who was nothing but extremely positive about his experience on 'Skyfall' and working with Sam Mendes and Daniel Craig. Both are set to return for Bond 24.

Thanks to `Jamie ` for the alert.
