Halle Berry interview reveals details of Die Another Day`s climax

03-Sep-2002 • Die Another Day

The Daily Record (UK) today published an interview with Halle Berry that reveals some exciting detail about the climax of "Die Another Day":

Temperatures are soaring well past the 100 degree mark on the set of the 20th James Bond adventure Die Another Day - and not just because Halle Berry is scantily- clad in a form-fitting tank top.

The cavernous "B" stage at the legendary Pinewood Studios - home to the Bond films since 1962 - has been transformed to house a Russian Antonov cargo plane, which plays a pivotal role in the climactic battle of Die Another Day.

In order to simulate the plummeting aircraft, it has been perched atop a massive hydraulic system. A wall of fire engulfs the rear of the plane and spectacular pyrotechnics explode inside the hull, as giant wind machines fan the flames.

At the eye of the firestorm is Halle Berry, wielding swords and sabres in an elaborate fight sequence with one of the baddies, as Bond desperately tries to gain control of the doomed flight. Satisfied after the third take, director Lee Tamahori yells "Cut!" and the fiery bombardment slowly subsides.

Halle Berry climbs down the narrow steps, wiping sweat from her brow and gulping down some bottled water. Pierce Brosnan joins her at the monitors as we watch a playback of the scene. "Bloody great," smiles Tamahori, as Berry continues studying her movements on the instant replay. "She could certainly kick my ass," adds Brosnan with a chuckle.

As we retreat to Berry`s trailer just outside the soundstage, the newly Oscar- crowned 33 year old admits: "The character of Jinx has been the most physically exhausting role I`ve played. "Not only learning the swordfighting and remembering all the moves, but nobody told me the floor was going to be shaking like that with flames and debris flying all around us too."
