Choice of next James Bond down to two contenders - again?

14-Mar-2005 • Casino Royale

In late February it was rumoured that the casting decision to who would play the sixth James Bond was down to two candidates: Clive Owen and Daniel Craig.

Today AICN announced that the casting decision was down to two candidates - again. This time the names mentioned were Julian McMahon and Daniel Craig (again).

The report said, "Two very different James Bonds are being considered at the moment. Expect the choice to come from this group of guys. It?s really down to Amy Pascal?s final choice, and as I understand it, she?s in the midst of making her mind up right now. Whoever gets picked starts work soon with Martin Campbell on CASINO ROYALE.
Does she want to go with Julian McMahon, star of TV?s NIP/TUCK and this summer?s FANTASTIC FOUR, who seems like a more movie star glamorous choice, or with Daniel Craig, star of LAYER CAKE and ROAD TO PERDITION, who seems like a hard-ass take-no-sh*t kind of Bond?"

Amy Pascal is the president of Columbia Pictures - a division of Sony Pictures."Casino Royale" is still being produced under the MGM banner (even though Sony are taking over). The final casting decision has traditionally been with Eon Productions.

Daniel Craig was rumoured as a potential 007 after his stunning performance in "Layer Cake" - directed by Matthew Vaughn, who admitted to turning down the director's job on Bond 21 after the film was delayed a year.

Thanks to `Martin Mystery` for the alert.
