Julian McMahon says accepting the James Bond role would be a `no brainer`

24-Mar-2005 • Casino Royale

The IESB have published a one-on-one interview with Australian actor Julian McMahon wherein he discusses the James Bond rumours. The interview was taped at last month's San Francisco Wonder Con - reports IGN.

McMahon, reportedly a frontrunner to be named the next 007 in Casino Royale, says "there's nothing to say" about his status as a Bond contender except to affirm that he's "one of those people" being considered for the role.

"Bond to me is like the superhero thing a little bit. I grew up with all those superheroes, James Bond and Indiana Jones. I mean, who wouldn't want to be Indiana Jones? Who wouldn't want to be James Bond? That's the way I look at it. So for me it's like a no-brainer but it all depends on who they want and what they want to do.

"I used to read all of those Ian Fleming novels. ... Casino Royale and all that sort of stuff is absolutely brilliant, and it's a genre I really like, a timeframe I really like. I really particularly like men in that timeframe," McMahon explains. "I liked the way men carried themselves in those times. The Roger Moores and Sean Connerys to me were like the men that you'd look up to, know what I mean? That was a guy that's gonna save your ass no matter what's going on.

"To play something like that is something you've had in your system for all of your life," he said, adding, "It's also good business-wise. Once you become Bond, you become a different level as an actor."
