24-Dec-2005 • Casino Royale

MEDIA RUMOUR
George Michael has been approached by the makers behind the new James Bond movie to record the [theme song] for Casino Royale - reports the Daily Record.

George, who has stepped back into the limelight recently, was asked earlier this week to attend a meeting with the movers and shakers behind the film which will star new Bond actor Daniel Craig.

And George was thrilled to be asked to join the likes of Shirley Bassey, Duran Duran, Lulu, and Sheena Easton in providing the soundtrack for the legendary series of films.

A friend of the star told the Razz: "George is really chuffed that he's been asked to meet up with the guys behind Casino Royale.

"It's very low key at the moment, but the people behind the movie are very keen to make this work."

The news comes just as George releases his biographical film, George Michael: A Different Story, a film about his life and work that is sure to keep fans on the edge of their seats.

The friend continued: "George is keen to be involved with some film work and this could be ideal for him.He had already been speaking to Robert De Niro about doing something in the movie world - George met De Niro at the Tribeca film festival where he screened his biopic, and Robert told George that he was a big fan."

The film has a gala screening on Monday and features contributions from former Wham! star Andrew Ridgeley, Boy George, Noel Gallagher, Elton John and Mariah Carey.

A spokesman for George said: "People always ask George what he is doing and this film will answer all their questions. It is going to be incredible."

The film charts George's descent into depression after the deaths of his lover Anselmo Feleppa, from Aids, and his mother, Lesley, from cancer.

And George talks for the first time about his infamous arrest for lewd conduct in a Los Angeles toilet in 1998.

It's a busy time for George after his hiatus.

The singer has just announced that he plans to wed partner Kenny Goss in a small, private ceremony.

George said: "Gay relationships are a bit different.

"I'm sure we'll be allowed to roam if we want to. But we love each other dearly. I want Kenny to have his rights just as I want mine."

George, who has sold more than 100 million albums as a solo artist, will release two more singles with Sony under his current contract.

He is also writing more material and is secretly preparing to do his first live shows in 18 years.
