Craig... DANIEL CRAIG. You know the number -- now get used to the name. Daniel Craig is the new agent 007, grabbing the baton from PIERCE BROSNAN in the new James Bond flick, 'Casino Royale' -- and ET is behind the scenes on the top-secret set!

"My criteria is to get it right," says the 38-year-old blonde actor. "I mean, I just want to get as good [as can be] and make the best movie we can."

Craig, whose credits include 'Munich' and 'Layer Cake,' is considered by some to be a controversial choice to follow in the footsteps of the likes of SEAN CONNERY, ROGER MOORE, TIMOTHY DALTON and Brosnan, but the British actor says he's gotten the thumbs up from his fellow Bond.

"I've met Pierce on a number of occasions and we've had a few drinks," reports Craig. "He's been incredibly encouraging. I think his words were, 'Go for it,' so that's what I'm doing."

On location at The One and Only Ocean Club in the Bahamas, Craig is bringing a new kind of sexy cool to the Bond franchise, sporting tiny blue trunks and a sculpted chest in one of the scenes. But that doesn't mean the actor hasn't also had his share of physical knocks in some of the intense fight scenes.

"It's a Bond movie; you've gotta get bruised," he says. "I'm doing as much as I can. Obviously, there are certain limitations."

Based on author IAN FLEMING's first Bond novel, published in 1953, 'Casino Royale' is a return to basics as Bond must match wits against a nefarious casino owner who uses his money to fund terrorism.

"We're discovering [Bond], and certainly [with] Casino Royale being the first of the books, he's got rough edges," explains Craig. "As the film progresses, we see him become the man that we know, love and hate."

The movie also stars JUDI DENCH as Bond's boss, M, MADS MIKKELSEN ('King Arthur') as Bond's arch-nemesis, Le Chiffre, and 'Kingdom of Heaven' star EVA GREEN as the sexy Vesper Lynd, who promises to bring some steam to the proceedings.

"I'm naked in a scene, but you know, it's PG-13, so I don't think you'd see anything," she says with a mischievous smile
