007 shoots into Russia and breaks the box-office records with DAD

18-Dec-2002 • Die Another Day

"Die Another Day" opened in Russia last weekend - and broke the box-office record books.

Bond films were banned in Russia during the cold war, but 007 is now an accepted part of modern society. The first film to be shown in the Kremlin was "The Man With The Golden Gun".

DAD took $2.6m from 159 theatres in the opening weekend of the former USSR - which featured in more than half of the previous film plots.

Elsewhere, South American markets all yielded new Bond opening records too. In Mexico the picture took $1.7m from 512 sites while Colombia produced $237,528 from 58 screens. Chile grossed $102,085 from 33 sites and Ecuador opened on $65,681 from 14 screens.

Die Another Day is scheduled to open in Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates on 18th December; the Dominican Republic, Hungary, Peru and Slovenia on 19th December; and India and Uruguay on 20th December.
