DAD finally beats xXx at US box office

29-Dec-2002 • Die Another Day

"Die Another Day" has finally overtaken the box-office haul made by Sony`s Vin Diesel vehicle "xXx".

"xXx" managed to rake in $142m earlier in the year when the anticipation of the next Bond film was starting to ramp up.

"Die Another Day" has just broken that barrier, by taking a total of $143.8m by its 36th day of release.

The number of screens showing DAD in the USA have now halved, and the film is likely to fall out of the box-office top 10 next weekend.

Although the battle between Bond and xXx may appear close, the world-wide takings for MGM`s DAD cast a large shadow over the Sony`s xXx - with DVD sales set to further the divide. Sony have yet to officially confirm a xXx sequel.

Thanks to Stavro for the numbers.
