India to break national record with Casino Royale for biggest film opening
The world's most popular film franchise is coming back to India like never before. The 21st offering in the James Bond series, Casino Royale, will release across India on November 17 with the highest number of prints ever for a Hollywood film - reports the Times Of India
Daniel Craig's debut as 007 will be marked with 500 prints for India; the previous record was 304 for Spider-Man 2. Hitherto, the big launches in India have included snake-flick Anaconda with 278 prints, former agent Pierce Brosnan's Die Another Day with 261 prints, action movie King Kong with 251 prints and Spider-Man with 250.
Casino Royale's distributors sound confident about pulling off the gamble. Uday Singh of Sony Pictures, India, which is bringing the film to India, said, "James Bond has a huge equity in India and his films have always been a hit in this country."
Casino Royale is the third screen adaptation of Ian Fleming's first Bond novel. After obtaining his 00-number and his licence to kill, James Bond sets out on his first mission which takes him to Madagascar to spy on a potential terrorist.
