Casino Royale wins at Art Director`s Guild Awards

18-Feb-2007 • Casino Royale

Production designers Huo Tingxiao, Eugenio Cabellero and Peter Lamont took top honors at the Art Directors Guild’s 11th Annual Excellence in Production Design Awards on Saturday night - reports Variety.

“Pan’s Labyrinth’s” Cabellero won in the fantasy category, while Tingxiao took home the period film prize for his work on “The Curse of the Golden Flower.” Lamont scored a win in the contemporary category for his work on “Casino Royale.”

On the television front, “Ugly Betty” captured the single camera category, while “MADtv” snared multi-camera and “Stephen King’s Desperation” walked away with the movie or mini-series.

The 58th Annual Emmy Awards garnered the variety kudo, while Victoria’s Secret “Sexy” ad won commercial honors

Warren Beatty presented “The Godfather Part II” Oscar winning art director Dean Tavoularis with a lifetime achievement nod. Multi-hyphenate Terry Gilliam was also feted for outstanding contributions to imagery.

“This is generally quite wondrous because it’s literally the first award I’ve won in Hollywood,” Gilliam proclaimed.

“The amazing thing is, I’m still here,” quipped art director Gene Allen when announcing the late great inductees into the guild’s Hall of Fame.

“This is a terribly important category for me because I lived with some of the honorees. The people we are talking about are like those who wrote the declaration of independence, they fought the battles for us,” Allen said of inductees Hilyrad Brown (“Cleopatra,” “Back to God’s Country”), Henry Bumstead (“Flag’s of Our Fathers”, “To Kill a Mockingbird,” “The Sting”), Carroll Clark (“Mary Poppins,” “Old Yeller”), Stephen Goosson (“Lost Horizon,” “The Lady from Shanghai) and Harry Horner (“The Heiress,” “The Hustler”).

Awards were held at the Beverly Hilton in BevHills.
