Moonraker space station model sells at auction

06-Mar-2008 • Collecting

In brief collecting news, a model of Hugo Drax's space station from the 1979 James Bond film "Moonraker" has been sold at auction.

An original miniature model of the space station sold for £6,400 at an auction in Midgham, Berkshire, UK.

During the filming, in order to create the final shot in which the space station is destroyed, the visual effects crew locked themselves in the studio and shot a model of the space station to pieces using shotguns.

The team headed by Derek Meddings, Paul Wilson and John Evans earned an Academy Award nomination for "Moonraker" in the category "Best Effects, Visual Effects".
