Anti-gun campaigners criticise `Quantum of Solace` teaser poster

04-Sep-2008 • Quantum Of Solace

The image of James Bond brandishing a metre-long machine-gun on the latest "Quantum of Solace" teaser poster has been blasted for glorifying armed violence - reports The Daily Star.

Campaigners want the advert for new 007 film Quantum Of Solace banned. The poster shows Bond star Daniel Craig, 40, posing with the weapon.

Anti-gun campaigners are outraged that the advert has been allowed after the spate of gun attacks across the UK.

A similar movie campaign has been banned by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), which ruled it could be seen to “glamorise the use of guns and violence”.

Two posters for Wanted, starring Angelina Jolie, 33, and James McAvoy, 29, were pulled.

Earlier Bond posters for 007 films like Octopussy and Goldeneye have shown guns.

But Lyn Costello, from Mothers Against Murder and Aggression, said: “Kids are killing each other – they are shooting and stabbing each other and everyone has to take responsibility for stopping this.”

An ASA spokesman said: “We have not received any complaints yet, but if we do then there is a process that has to be followed.”
