Daimler Chrysler not at all jealous of Ford`s product placement in `Die Another Day`

22-Jun-2003 • Die Another Day

Car giant Daimler Chrysler will be hitting the big screen later this year, thanks to Angelina Jolie getting behind the wheel of their Jeep Wrangler Rubicon in "Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life," which opens July 25th 2003.

DaimlerChrysler snapped up the product placement after Ford decided not to continue to supply another Land Rover Defender for the sequel. Ford instead chose to commit to 007 in "Die Another Day".

But Jeff Bell, vice president of the DaimlerChrysler AG`s Jeep division, sounded a tad jealous of the giant Ford corporation, who were rumoured to have paid over $100m to take over from BMW in the Bond series.

"Angelina Jolie`s vehicle is a different type of thing than just, `Oh, Halle Berry drove up in some vehicle outside of some kind of igloo`," he added, referring to the Ford Thunderbird that Berry`s character Jinx drove in the "Die Another Day."

He added that said auto marketers need to learn the art of casting as they push their cars for movie roles.
