`Quantum of Solace` breaks box-office records in Japan with $6.5m opening weekend

25-Jan-2009 • Quantum Of Solace

"Quantum of Solace" opened nationwide in Japan this weekend, the last international territory for the 22nd James Bond film, and smashed box office records.

According to Variety, "Quantum" raked in $6.5m in Japan in its opening weekend. That is the biggest opening for any 007 adventure and smashes the $3.25m bar Daniel Craig set with his previous film "Casino Royale" (2006).

"Quantum" also earned $3m at sneak preview screenings in Tokyo on Saturday 17th & Sunday 18th January.

The film looks set to blast past the final total of $18.98m set by "Casino Royale" in Japan.

"Quantum"s international box-office haul currently stands at $391.2m and is expected to break the $400m mark next week. The film has earned $168m in North America to date.
