Corgi regains James Bond licence

09-Feb-2009 • Collecting

Corgi has secured a worldwide deal to produce a range of James Bond products - reports ToyNewsMag.

Corgi has had a long association with the James Bond brand with one of its best known models being the James Bond gold painted Aston Martin DB5.

Since Hornby’s takeover of Corgi in 2008, the firm has been working to regain the Bond licence in order to create more iconic models.

Now, with the return of the die-cast 1:36 scale 007 cars, the company will once again be associated with the James Bond brand from both classic and modern films. The deal will also encompass the next Bond film to be made.

Frank Martin, chief executive of Hornby commented: “We are delighted to have the Bond licence back with the Corgi brand. It was a ‘must get’ after acquisition of Corgi last year as we feel it the perfect association for Corgi.”

The Daniel Craig products have particular resonance as in all of Corgi’s long association with James Bond, it has never failed to make a car in celebration of a Bond film until last year. Now with the new licence, Corgi can rectify this and maintain its heritage with Bond.

For the Daniel Craig fans, both the Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace DBS (pictured) are available in a Showcase ‘Fit the Box’ Scale (£4.99). The new Daniel Craig Era set, will be available from May at £30.00.

The Pierce Brosnan Era set will be available from April at £30.00 and the Aston Martin Vanquish and the BMW 750i are both available in 1:36 scale (£13.99), along with the Showcase ‘Fit the Box’ Scale Aston Martin Vanquish (£4.99).

From the classic Bond films, the Bond Lotus Turbo is available from April in a 1:36 scale, at £13.99. Additionally, the Roger Moore Era set will hit shelves in April at £30.00.

The Sean Connery Era set will also be available from April (£30.00) and Little Nellie is available as a Showcase ‘Fit the Box’ Scale at £4.99. The Gyrocopter and Rolls Royce are available in 1:36 Scale for £13.99.
