Rare first edition Ian Fleming novel donated for charity auction

12-Jun-2009 • Collecting

A rare edition of a James Bond novel, donated to a Watford charity shop, is set to go under the hammer to raise money for Oxfam - reports the Watford Observer.

Rare books plucked from the bookshelves in Oxfam charity shops across England will be auctioned on Tuesday to raise £40,000 for the charity.

And among the items will be a first edition of Ian Fleming’s Thunderball and a rare book on the History of Java, by Stamford Raffles, both of which were donated in Watford.

Last year and Oxfam auction sold a book featuring the very first appearance in print of Sherlock Holmes sold for £15,500. The book had been found in a shop in Harrogate, Yorkshire.
