Bond girl Gemma Arterton in Southampton to promote 'Alice Creed'

22-Apr-2010 • Actor News

Southampton enjoyed a visit from a Bond girl last night, reports the Daily Echo.

British acting sensation Gemma Arterton, who has showcased her versatility in projects ranging from Tess of the D'Urbervilles to Quantum of Solace as Bond girl Strawberry Fields alongside Daniel Craig, was in the city to launch her latest film.

She is currently starring in the box-office smash Clash of the Titans and will soon appear alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in the Disney epic, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.

But in between filming these two juggernauts, the actress took on one of her most challenging roles to date, as a kidnap victim in the British movie, The Disappearance of Alice Creed And Gemma last night arrived on the red carpet at Southampton University’s Union Films to promote the film – a thriller from J Blakeson.

The cinema won the right to screen the film, also starring Eddie Marsan and Martin Compston, after winning a Facebook popularity vote.

Audiences looked on as two masked men seize a young woman on a suburban street.

They bind and gag her and take her to an abandoned, soundproofed apartment. She is Alice Creed, daughter of a millionaire.

Her kidnappers, the coldly efficient Vic and his younger accomplice Danny, have worked out a meticulous plan. But Alice is not going to play the perfect victim – she’s not giving in without a fight.

In a tense powerplay of greed, duplicity and survival we discover that sometimes disappearances can be deceptive.
