Bond director Guy Hamilton compares Connery and Moore

05-Aug-2010 • Bond News

James Bond director Guy Hamilton, who helmed four outings (Goldfinger, Diamonds Are Forever, Live And Let Die, The Man With The Golden Gun) attended a Q&A for the "Goldfinger" screening at Somerset House last weekend.

As he had worked with both Connery and Moore, Hamilton was asked, "who best suited the role of James Bond?

"Roger can’t run, but he’s a terrific swimmer. He’s not very good with bangs or firing guns, but I suppose he had a nice sense of delivering double-entendres lightly, whereas Sean could be a bit heavy", the 87-year old director said.

"Sean was a bit dour, but he’d signed up for a five-picture contract when he only thought there would be one. He used to cry on my shoulder about being still on the same salary for each!"
