Sir Tom Jones reveals Cubby Broccoli considered him for Bond

03-Oct-2010 • Bond News

"Thunderball" singer Sir Tom Jones has revealed he was once considered to play James Bond.

The 70-year-old told a radio interview how 007 producer Cubby Broccoli toyed with the idea of casting him, reports the Sun.

Although he did not say when, it is thought to have been around the time Sean Connery's tenure was ending in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

Sir Tom said: "I would have liked to be Bond and at one time it was discussed."

"Cubby said when my name was put forward, 'Tom Jones is so recognisable as Tom Jones. Would people accept him as Bond? Could they get past him being Tom Jones?' Apparently that was the problem."
