Satirists prank media in Norway with lookalike Daniel Craig

29-Mar-2019 • No Time To Die

Some satirists in Norway pranked their country's leading media outlets by planting a fake tip that Daniel Craig was drinking in a pub in Oslo. With Bond 25 filming in the country, it triggered the media to run the story and scramble to the pub in question.

One of the national newspapers put the splash on their front page.

- Can you say something about the movie?
- I can, but do not want to, he told Dagbladet.

This was a headline for 10 minutes before they realised it was just a Daniel Craig lookalike and they had been set up, even though he had a Norwegian accent when answering in questions in English. Click here to watch their interview with 'Daniel Craig.'

After some further investigation, the newspapers traced the phone number that made the tip to the offices of the government-owned broadcaster NRK, and the humourists behind the show 'NRK Satiriks.'

"We wanted to test how it is when foreign celebrities come to Oslo and how long it takes for the newspapers to hang out. We sent tips to Dagbladet and VG and some other media," said Stig Morten Waage.

Waage says he doesn't have the name of the man who pretended to be Daniel Craig, but says he will have won a Daniel Craig look-a-like competition.

It's not the first time that Norway's media has been fooled by the satirists.
