MI6 met up with a member of the second unit crew on "Die Another Day" to learn about the filming taking place around the UK, and what the story holds for a group of NSA agents...

"Die Another Day" Filming At RAF Marham
1st May 2002

Late last week, a member of the MI6 team had a secret rendezvous with a member of Die Another Day's 2nd Unit crew in a pub near King's Lynn to talk about the UK filming taking place outside the security of Pinewood Studios.

MI6 was briefed on several forthcoming shoots around the UK, and we can exclusively reveal the facts behind the 2nd unit's latest outing.

RAF Marham, a short car journey from King's Lynn in Norfolk (north east England) was the location for filming a helicopter sequence.

Both Pierce Brosnan and Rick Yune (Zao) were on hand to shoot some scenes, whilst the stunt crew and pilots were put through their paces as the weather did not let up. Heavy winds an intermittent rain plagued the shoot, which was delayed from Monday following bad weather.

The story of Die Another Day features several NSA agents taking off in a helicopter, and later crashing and exploding whilst Bond looks on helplessly.

MI6 can confirm that this sequence of Die Another Day had a slight rewrite following the tragic events of September 11th 2001. As the scene was pivotal to the plot development however, the story will still see several US NSA agents dying when their helicopter crashes after being attacked from leaving Colonel Moon's base.

History of RAF Marham

Part of the site now occupied by RAF Marham had originally been RNAS Station Narborough during the First World War. Developed during the 1930s, Marham has been used as a heavy bomber and fighter Station, before it became the RAF's major reconnaissance base in 1993. Currently operating from Marham are No II(AC) Squadron and No 13 Squadron, both equipped with 12 Tornado GR1A/GR4As, as well as No 39 (1 PRU) Squadron, which operates 5 Canberra PR9s and 2 Canberra T4s. No 2620 (County of Norfolk) Squadron, RAuxAF, is also based there.

More 2nd Unit Action
