Mix A Vesper Martini
4th November 2008
Virgin Atlantic today unveiled the ultimate
way to make a Vesper Martini featuring one of its onboard barmen,
Marc Plumridge. The new video
teaches you how to make and enjoy the perfect Vesper Martini. Plumridge,
Bacardi Global Travel Retail Brand Ambassador said: “The Vesper Martini is the ultimate drink – full
of sophistication and style and I hope you enjoy making your
own. Even better, why not try this delightful little number whilst
relaxing in the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse at Heathrow Airport.”
The Vesper as served in Virgin Atlantic Clubhouses contains
60ml Bombay Sapphire, 20ml Grey Goose, 10ml Lillet Blanc, and
a twist of lemon peel as garnish.
Virgin Atlantic introduced the unique service of flying mixologists
in 2004 and the service has proved so popular that this special
cocktail service is now offered on selected flights to a number
of destinations around the world. The service is part of a six
year partnership with Bacardi Martini that started with a masterclass
in the Heathrow Clubhouse where passengers were taught how to
make a classic martini.

The Vesper is a drink named after Vesper
Lynd in Ian Fleming’s original book from 1953, Casino
Royale. The Vesper is a very specific style of drink – intense,
served short, and served ice ice cold.
In the new film, Quantum of Solace, James Bond, played by Daniel
Craig, flies Upper Class across the Atlantic. It’s the
second time that Virgin Atlantic has appeared in a Bond movie,
after its successful partnership with Casino
Royale, which became
the most successful in the James Bond franchise.
