MI6 takes a sneak peek at the new Nintendo DS version of "GoldenEye: Rogue Agent" - due out later this month...

GoldenEye: Rogue Agent Nintendo DS - Sneak Peek
12th June 2005

With "GoldenEye: Rogue Agent" set to be released for the Nintendo DS this week in the USA (Bond fans in Europe have to wait until July 1st), MI6 takes a sneak peek at some of the exciting elements squeezed in to this handheld version.

"GoldenEye: Rogue Agent" will be the debut first-person-perspective shooter for the Nintendo DS, thanks to EA Tiburon developing a new ultra light-weight fast gaming engine for the handheld. Most of the single player campaign form the console version has made it over to the handheld version, with most of the six missions recognisable.

The real excitement around this title though, is the multiplayer modes and functionality. Multiplay on handhelds, whether cabled or wire-less, has traditionally been hampered by the fact that either all players need a copy of the game, or the shared version is so cut down (for transmission purposes) that it is a mere shell of the full game.

It is the wi-fi play modes that could make "GoldenEye: Rogue Agent" a mini-classic on the DS. Although the game does cut down it's payload down slightly when hooking up players without a cartridge, it's not the end of the world. Up to eight players can hook up to share in some fragging, with the similar multiplayer modes from the console version, such as Showdown, Team Showdown, Domination, and Tug-Of-War.

The other key selling point of the DS version is the control system. The heads-up-display, which featured as a screen overlay on the console version, is now moved to the bottom touch-sensitive screen on the DS. Weapons configurations and eye powers can now be controlled by the touch of a thumb against the screen, which is far easier and more intuitive than it first sounds.

UK - MI6 Price: £24.99
USA - MI6 Price: $29.99

Despite the console version being widely panned by the gaming press, and suffering lacklustre sales, the ailing title may have a last minute trick up its sleeve in the shape of the Nintendo DS version. Stay tuned to MI6 for the full review later this month.

"GoldenEye: Rogue Agent" for Nintendo DS is scheduled for release on 15th June 2005 in the USA and 1st July 2005 in Europe. Stay tuned to MI6 for the latest and most indepth coverage.
