A Smashing Set Visit
24th January 2011
Back on December 11th, 1986, Prince Charles
and Princess Diana visited the set of "The Living Daylights" to
meet the new James Bond -
Timothy Dalton. The press reported on a smashing visit...
The Princess of Wales broke a bottle over her husband's
head yesterday during a visit to a film set. The Prince
did not mind, in fact he had to insist that she should
have a smashing time with synthetic bottles from the stunt
department.
They were visiting Pinewood Studios to
watch the making of the latest James Bond film, "The
Living Daylights".
Prince
Charles was fascinated as stuntman Simon Crane broke
what seemed to be a large green bottle over the head of
stunt
arranger Paul Weston. |

Told the bottle was made of sugar glass and it was perfectly
safe, the Prince promptly turned round, picked up another bottle,
and broke it over Paul's head. Prince Charles then persuaded
his wife to break a synthetic decanter over his head after being
assured that it would not hurt.
The Princess, blushing furiously, said: "I
can't. I can't. I would never be able to forget it." The
Prince insisted, and she swung the bottle and watched with relief
as it shattered
into fragments over the head of the unscathed Prince. Later they
took one of the bottles home to Kensington Palace.
