She worked her way through the ranks before being picked up by the Royal Shakespeare Company to design costumes for one of their highly acclaimed productions, and from there: the West End.

Her first film credit came in the mid-1980s onboard the Ian Holm comedy "Laughterhouse". For 10 years Hemming had a steady run of employment on British film and television, designing primarily for contemporary, local productions. She came to Hollywood attention after her work on "Four Weddings and a Funeral", the memorable Hugh Grant romantic comedy, before being picked up for James Bond's return to the screen in 1995's "GoldenEye". Hemming signed on to Oliver Platt noir/comedy project "Funny Bones", released the same year as "GoldenEye" and then jumped back to Victorian times for "Topsy-Turvy" (1999), the semi-factual Gilbert and Sullivan drama. For her work on this lavish production, Lindy Hemming was rewarded with an Oscar.

Since "Casino Royale" (2006), Hemming has gone on to work with director Martin Campbell once more on 2010's "Edge of Darkness", a cinematic adaptation of Campbell's '80s miniseries. She has also contributed to the first two Harry Potter adventures and the Batman reboot ("Batman Begins") and its followup "The Dark Knight" which earned her many prestigious award nominations.
