Daniel Craig becomes first American citizen to play James Bond (officially)

26-Nov-2019 • No Time To Die

Daniel Craig has become the first American to play James Bond in the official film series.

During the Los Angeles premiere of his new movie 'Knives Out,' Craig told reporters he was proud to be an American. It sparked talk that Craig may have completed his naturalization and become an American citizen. He has since gone on the record that, yes, he now holds a US passport.

His wife Rachel Weisz became an American citizen a few years ago. "I did it because I thought I would go back to England for a while, and lose my green card," she said in a 2012 interview.

As a British subject, Craig is entitled to dual-nationality, meaning he can hold both US and British passports.

Given his citizenship was completed prior to the end of principal photography on 'No Time To Die', it makes him the first American citizen to play James Bond in the EON Productions franchise.

The previous occupant of the role, Pierce Brosnan, also became an American citizen, but he completed the process in 2004, two years after his last film 'Die Another Day'.
