`GoldenEye` director Martin Campbell signed to helm James Bond 21 says trade paper

05-Jan-2005 • Casino Royale

Martin Campbell, who helped to revive the James Bond franchise with the 1995 hit "GoldenEye," has apparently signed on to direct the 21st installment in MGM's spy series - according to trade paper The Hollywood Reporter.

"MGM is pressing ahead with a number of new projects, including its next James Bond movie, which Martin Campbell has signed on to direct."

The trade paper reported back in November 2004 that Campbell was in negotiations to helm the film, shortly after news broke that MGM had canned the planned November 18th 2005 release date as a suitable director could not be found. MGM then announced that the movie would be due "sometime in 2006".

After "GoldenEye" premiered in 1995, Campbell said on numerous occasions that he wouldn't be tempted back to do the same thing all over again, despite the success and critical acclaim "GoldenEye" enjoyed.

Campbell was first rumoured for the Bond 21 directors chair back in July 2003.
